A highly visable Giffords

At least one question was answered - Giffords hosted the meeting at Douglas.

There's no question that the Sierra Vista Herald is in Giffords corner. In the 5-31-07 issue on the front page was a 7.5X5.5 colored picture of her at the meeting. http://www.svherald.com/. The paper didn't say that much was accomplished. The paper noted, "Giffords said she wanted to explore ways that Mexican and U.S. officials could work together to address a recent wave of organized-crime-related violence in the area." Here is the crux, "Giffords asked if officials in Washington might be able to help facilitate the exchange of information across the border, but Dever said that federal policy often hurts more than it helps. What would really help, he said half-jokingly, “is if you all could just get out of our hair and send us the money.”
Three cheers for Sheriff Dever.

After the meeting, "Giffords recommended that such exchanges should become a regular event, and suggested that the next summit be held in Agua Prieta." That would probably be a waste of time. The article noted, "Cochise County Sheriff Larry Dever also talked about how his office collaborates with counterparts in Sonora via monthly meetings and informal conversations held on an almost daily basis." But such an effort is good publicity for her. Now she is becoming an expert in law enforcement, as well as Border Patrol and Iraq.

But, that's not the end. While she was in Cochise County being an expert in emergency services, she gave a pep talk that the Fry Fire Department on Yaqui St. That rated another half page article. She noted, "“The urban areas don’t understand the challenge of delivering emergency services in Southern Arizona,” said Rep. Gabrielle Giffords to the monthly assembly of first responders Wednesday morning."

The point in all this is that it sure looks good on paper, and that's what the voter sees. She's a good campaigner. She's visible. And looks like she has the press on side judging by the articles. Our task in CD8 , and it will not be an easy one, is to convey to the voting public how liberal is her voting record. All the meetings and pep talks will not change that.
